D117 Families, Students, and Staff,

This is the January edition of a monthly update wherein you will receive timely reminders, links for upcoming events, and news from Community High School District #117. We promise to keep this to a 5 minute read (or less!)!

1. Semester Grades Posted Today

Students’ grades for first semester were posted today, so you will see them when you login to Infinite Campus. When looking in the “Grades” tab, first select “Semester 1” at the top. All finalized semester 1 grades will have an asterisk (*). The semester/term GPA and cumulative GPA are also available on this tab.

2. First “Behavior, Attendance, & Grades” One Page Report Coming February 23

Speaking of grades, we are excited to help you keep track of your student’s progress this semester with a new, easy full page snapshot that summarizes their behavior, attendance, and grade updates directly to your email inbox! This is in pursuit of our “courageous” competency in our D117 Portrait of a Graduate that says a D117 Graduate “creates, monitors and reflects upon ambitious goals”. Look for the first report in your email inbox on February 23!

3. One Senior Will Win a Free Car Every Year!

Thanks to the generosity of Raymond Chevrolet Kia, one senior each year will win a brand-new car! To qualify, seniors need to show success in various facets of their high school journey as we pursue our new ‘D117 Portrait of a Graduate’. To enter the raffle, students need to earn Cum Laude distinction, the threshold for which is as follows:

  • Exhibit academic dedication by earning 26 credits

  • Maintain a strong character with zero suspensions

  • Engage with their community through at least 40 hours of volunteer work

  • Achieve a high standard of excellence by securing 3 capstone credits

  • Demonstrate school spirit by participating in at least four D117 extracurricular activities

Students and families will have the opportunity to learn about our exceptional schools and tour athletics, activities, and curricular opportunities as they shop for the schedule of fall commitments!

5. D117 Day on 1/17 - Join us at ACHS for LCHS v. ACHS!

Each year on 1/17 we celebrate D117 Day! In addition to some surprises for students and staff during the day, we will celebrate with some crosstown athletic competitions after school. ACHS is hosting Lakes for girls basketball games with the varsity match up starting at 7pm. At LCHS, you can catch an iceless hockey game in the fieldhouse beginning at 6pm between Sequoit Sidekicks and Eagle Pals. Come out and join us!

8. Directions for E-Learning Day When Required Due to Weather

With winter finally showing itself in full effect here at the start of 2024, it is timely for us to again remind you that if we do need to cancel in-person instruction due to hazardous weather, we will pivot to an E-Learning day. Be sure to take your chromebook home every night. If we have an E-Learning Day, students are expected to follow the directions listed at this link.  Finally, if you are interested in what we consider when deciding whether to call an E-Learning day, you can review this decision making process here.
