Community High School District 117 Career Guide

At Antioch and Lakes Community High Schools, we believe that preparing students for the future is about helping every student discover their passions, explore real-world opportunities, and build the skills they'll need to thrive in life after high school. Our Career Guide is designed to be a powerful resource for students, families, counselors, and educators to engage in meaningful conversations about college and career pathways available through our dynamic Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings.

This guide also highlights the deeper mission that guides all we do at District 117: the development of the six competencies outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate. These competencies serve as our district's "North Star," ensuring that every student who walks across the graduation stage leaves with more than a diploma; they leave prepared to contribute, lead, and succeed.

Our goal is to nurture a graduate who "communicates" by learning to "articulate ideas effectively using clear and concise oral and written communication," who "collaborates" by "actively listen(ing] to discover mutual understanding by providing and receiving feedback," and who "thinks critically" by "leveragling) curiosity to identify and solve problems while taking intellectual risks."

We also aim to support students who "embrace diversity" by "actively work[ing] to develop empathy for others," who are "emotionally intelligent" by "practici[ng] responsible decision-making and consider[ing] impact on others," and who are "courageous" in their ability to "advocate for self and others in a socially responsible and empathetic manner."

Through this Career Guide, students can explore a wide range of career-focused programs that align with their interests and ambitions. It can serve as a conversation starter when meeting with school counselors or discussing future plans at home. Parents and guardians will find valuable labor market data and practical insights into viable pathways that support their child's long-term success. Teachers and counselors can use the information within these pages to help guide students toward meaningful next steps, whether that leads to further education, technical training, or direct entry into the workforce.

Together, let's continue to create opportunities that empower students to explore, grow, and pursue their goals and our mission "To Ignite Passion and Discovery in Every Student"!
