Lakes Tennis hosted 7 local teams for the Spirit of the Northwest tournament Thursday. Originally hosted by Johnsburg High School at several locations, Lakes took over about ten years ago when the tennis complex first opened up. According to head coach Bryan Plinske, having 24 courts in one place allows all the teams, coaches, and fans to be at one place.
The Eagles are led by Seniors Sophie Bucko at 1 Singles, and Kaylee Anderson and Hayley Easterberg at 1 Doubles. “I have only been playing tennis for two years,” said Bucko. “Last year I was in a doubles team with Kaylee Anderson, but I moved to singles after doing a lot of club work in the off season.”
The girls’ have had a successful fall season this year, defeating many local schools including Zion Benton. Bucko says she is excited for the tournament. “I know who I play first, she is from Zion. I really want to beat her today.”
The Eagles are looking forward to their conference match on Friday, October 10th, starting at 10:00 AM.
