Antioch, IL - October 28, 2022 - Antioch Community High School is proud to announce an assembly to recognize those who have served and continue to serve our country. The assembly will take place Nov. 11 in the North Gym at ACHS beginning at 9:35 a.m.
“It is often said that freedom isn’t free. It is with great pride that we have this assembly to honor those that were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the freedoms that we enjoy. We owe a great debt of gratitude to the veterans of our military branches who have proudly served this country. It is our sincere desire that this assembly reminds all within the community of the importance of the veterans who reside within our neighborhoods.” said Mr. Mike Berrie, ACHS Principal.
The assembly will feature the Antioch Community High School band and choir and will honor veterans from all of the branches of the United States Military. Students and staff will also recognize family and community members by submitting photographs to a slideshow that will then be played at the assembly. Veterans, current service personnel, and their families are welcome to attend this event.
Social studies department chair Anne Eichman said, “ACHS takes great pride in thanking our community’s veterans and hosting them for this special event. As part of our dedication to civic engagement and building strong community partnerships, we are honored to welcome veterans and community leaders into our building on this day.”
Members of the ACHS community hope that this event will serve as a positive reminder of the successes and sacrifices our nation’s military men and women encounter every day. This event allows for the students to better understand the impact our military heroes, both past and present, have not only on this country, but on the Antioch community as a whole.
Community High School District 117 has a strong tradition of honoring our servicemen and women. The Veterans Day Assembly is held annually at District 117 with the location rotating between ACHS and Lakes Community High School.
