What ‘Ignite passion and discovery in every student’ Means to Me
Every single day of your life you will be asked to complete certain tasks and attain certain goals. The beauty of school is that it allows educators to set the bar right where you do not think it is capable of being set, and then help you get there. We all have something that ignites our passion for life, education is all about sorting through the drudgery and finding something you can really sink your teeth into. Oftentimes we will not seek out these discoveries ourselves and that is the beauty of a good education.
A Teachable Moment
When I was in high school, I chose to take AP physics my senior year. The class was a period and a half long, but I absolutely loved physics. I remember one day taking half of the class setting up a lab and taking my data. I went to the results section only to realize I had done everything incorrectly and I took all the wrong data. My teacher, Mr. Crowns, then came up to me and asked me why I was just sitting there. I said I had failed the experiment and wouldn't be getting a good grade. He literally just laughed in my face and said, "This is science. When you fail, you just try again." I reset up the lab, took the right data, and for the first time in my life learned that it is normal to fail.
