  • What ‘Ignite passion and discovery in every student’ Means to Me

I believe it means to consistently guide students to ask the questions of "Why?" and "How?" rather than only "What?". To move as educators from being the "sage on the stage" to the "Guide on the side" and assist students in taking ownership of their learning and curiosity. Along with this we should be focusing on helping foster communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Lastly, I believe that it means to help students create real world and personal connections to their learning through exploration of the aforementioned statements.

  • A Teachable Moment

Mine is rather simple. Being in high school choir is what helped me break out of my shell, shed my shyness, and develop self confidence and discipline. I became a student leader and with that came an opportunity to either be a part of a two week study hall or take charge and help prepare my choir for an upcoming tour in the absence of our teacher. Needless to say I put in a lot of hard work and extra hours to essentially teach the class and help prepare a large amount of music and this showed me what I should do for a career that I would enjoy at a time when I had no idea what to do. I know Forestry will miss me, but I found my calling.
