Student earns spot in German language immersion camp

Anna Gundlach was invited to Elmhurst College on Sunday, March 12 to interview for a month-long trip to Germany this summer due to her scoring in the 98th percentile on the National German Exam this January. After a test of her written German skills (writing a response in German to an email), she interviewed in German with a panel of teachers. Topics included introductions, discussing leisure activities, German experiences, travel, future plans, her reason for applying for the scholarship, what she will do after the trip, if she should win, etc.

It is with great pleasure that I announce Anna was awarded with a scholarship to spend two weeks in Minnesota at Concordia Language Villages Immersion Camp at Waldsee. According to their website, “Have fun with hands-on practical language learning. Improve your German and use it in real situations. Exchange your currency for euros at our Bank, shop in our Laden for books or a t-shirt, or order some Nutella Gelato or Gummibären in Café Einbeck. Pass the Wiener Schnitzel or solve the mystery of the Geheimbetreuer, who is always listening for villagers speaking German. It’s all part of becoming a real Sprachmeister.” It will be much like spending two weeks in Germany, but the flight is much shorter!

We are so proud of Anna and wish her a great time at Waldsee.
