For one, the varsity boys volleyball team took first place in the first year of the NLCC. They finished the regular season with a 10-0 record. Also, three varsity girls track runners qualified for the state meet, which will take place at Eastern Illinois University on May 19-20. Taylor Tilmon accomplished a rare feat, qualifying in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter runs. She also just missed the school record in the 400-meter by .11. Toyin Jackson qualified for state for the second time, this time in the long jump event. Olivia Schmitt, a freshman, broke her personal record in the 800-meter run by seven seconds to qualify in that event. She is the #3 freshman in the state in the 800-meter run. “We had a team goal of top five. We finished 5th with 45 points and were only two points away from 3rd!” Head Coach Travis Shepherd said.
