Safety is a team effort
Lakes hosted approximately 20 officials from District 117 and local law enforcement and fire agencies on Thursday, May 25 for a discussion about the many facets of the school’s safety plan. This included communication protocol and District 117’s use of the system NaviGate Respond in the case of an emergency to record student attendance using a device such as an iPad, said Kurt Sooley, dean of students.
Additional meetings with the group are schedule for June 12 and 20 to prepare more specifically for a July 20 evacuation drill at Lakes, in which each of the agencies plays a role. Upon successful completion of the two pre-drill meetings and the simulated emergency situation, Lakes’ plan will become FEMA-certified, Sooley said. Antioch Community High School also will become certified in the near future.
