Eagles Wellness Challenge winners

The third annual Eagles Wellness Challenge ended in mid-April with team JMSquared coming in first place. Team members include Maddie Olson, Jordan Bratzke, Madison Padilla, and Jen DeRue. Top individual finishers included Enrique Gomez, Natalie Maguire, Meghan Butler, Mary McGinnis, and Jessica St. John, and top staff finishers included Jaclyn Orlov, Social Studies Department Chair, and Matt Jones, World Languages Department Chair. Each member of the winning team as well as the top individuals each earned generous prizes, thanks to donations from the Lakes Eagles Booster Club and many other local businesses and groups.

The Eagles Wellness Challenge is a six-week challenge that takes place each spring. The purpose is to encourage participants to live a balanced lifestyle in five areas of wellness: nutritional, physical, emotional, intellectual, and social. They earn points for completing activities in each of those areas every day, as well as bonus points for participating in school events or going above and beyond in some other way.

This year, about 125 students and staff members signed up for the challenge as either a member of a team or as an individual. A student and staff committee helped to organize the event. Committee members included students Kaylee Riffer, Jordan Bratzke, Karla Sanchez, Mya Pfeifer, Jack Segal, and Arianna Tsengouras and staff members included P.E. teacher Tami Ribbens and administrative assistant Sue Burton. Other staff members who contributed to the challenge included Matt Kastor, Fine Arts Department Chair, and Spanish teacher Cara Stronsky, who each led an after school yoga session; P.E. teacher Craig Stocker, who led a before school CrossFit session; and art teacher Kevin Shifley, who led two after school art classes.
