  • What ‘Ignite passion and discovery in every student’ Means to Me

As the saying goes, " you can lead a horse to water… " As educators we can create meaningful, standards-based lessons and deliver them to students. But this is just leading them to water. They are not necessarily drinking yet for themselves. But, if we can pose problems that they want to solve, foster a sense of curiosity and imagination, and get them critically thinking about the world, then we have ignited passion and discovery. That is what will drive students toward furthering their education and desire to be life long learners. That passion will open doors to a more fulfilling future.

  • A Teachable Moment

When I was in high school I choreographed for my show choir. One average rehearsal, my choir director at Cary-Grove HS watched me teach a dance to the group, and afterward I asked him how it went. He simply responded by saying, "you are going to be a teacher, right? " In that moment I decided. Yes. I would become a teacher because if my favorite teacher believed in me, I believed in me. That is the power of teaching.
