Bear the golden retriever visited Lakes last week. A service dog from Interquest Detection Canines of the Chicagoland area, Bear was joined by his handler Glenn VadeBonCoeur to educate students and staff about how the canine can help to keep Lakes a safe place.
The 7-year-old canine’s primary role is to sniff for drugs and other illegal substances on school premises and to prevent those substances from ever making appearances on campus. Bear has been a service dog for five and a half years and will make a few visits to Lakes this year.
During the visit, VadeBonCoeur and counselor Helen Papas introduced students to Bear in the cafeteria and Commons during lunch periods, much to the students’ enjoyment.
