Everyone has their own "challenge level." As a teacher, I hope to discover what that line is in each of my students and inspire, push, model, motivate and increase learning and growth substantially at a pace and rigor that stimulates a desire for more. I hope students discover how they are an intricate and important member of this global society and how important it is to use compassion, empathy and love for one another when solving the diverse issues of the future. A Teachable Moment While in high school myself, I was part of a program called ISIC's (Independent study in the Community), whereby I assisted a teacher at a nearby grade school, one period per day. The teacher was bilingual with the extraordinary responsibility of teaching the class in both Spanish and English. In Spanish, I would try to help these students of limited-English-abilities. The mentoring teacher switched languages effortlessly to fit the needs of her students, and I was in awe. From the first time I saw her do this, I knew I wanted to learn Spanish fluently and adapt my lessons to the needs of the students, like she did. I love teaching Spanish and sharing my passion for the subject with my students.
