Michael Riggs Teacher 847-838-7794 firstname.lastname@example.org Notes What ‘Ignite passion and discovery in every student’ Means to Me I was actually part of the committee that produced this mission statement, and I wish I could tell you want it was like when we hit on this mission statement. We had been working for a while and the mission statement we had going was fine, but it was, in its way, the usual corporate boilerplate. Then, Brian Phelan voiced his concern with this, and within five minutes we had this mission, which was totally different than where we had been heading up to that point. It was so refreshing and inspiring to be a part of that moment and to think about what this statement really means--but also terrifying. The only thing I could keep thinking was, "do I do that when I teach?" And honestly? No, not always--but that's why it's a mission. A Teachable Moment My high school bass teacher revolutionized the way I thought and felt about playing music, and teaching and learning. She taught me so much, but some of the lessons I try to put into practice include: 1. Don't feel bad if it's bad--just work to make it better. 2. Be honest with yourself no matter what. 3. You can learn from anyone. 4. Be an artist! 5. If you play out of tune, nobody wants to listen to you. (It's so true) attachments & Links Visit My Website It's new! Finally!
